Arlington student arrested for bringing gun to school



The student reportedly introduced a gun Friday to Gunn Junior High in Arlington ISD.

ARLINGTON, Texas — A Gunn Junior High School student was arrested Tuesday after he allegedly introduced a gun to the school Friday. 

Arlington ISD and Arlington police each confirmed the gun-related incident, saying a student got here ahead Tuesday saying that final Friday one other student had introduced and confirmed off a gun at school. It’s unclear if the gun was loaded or had ammo. 

The student later admitted to police to bringing the gun to school, police say, though officers and school officers by no means noticed the gun in query. It’s unclear why the student had the gun. 

Officers later charged the student with illegal carrying of a weapon in a prohibited place. 

Police say there have been no accidents.

As the student arrested was a minor, police won’t be releasing their identify. 

In an announcement to mother and father, Gunn Junior High Principal Matt Varnell confirmed there was a report of a student with a gun on campus Friday and that the student had admitted to having the gun and was arrested. 

“I want to commend our student for saying something about the gun,” Varnell stated. “It’s important that when you see something, you say something. The safety and security of our students and staff is our No. 1 priority.” 

Arlington police launched an announcement, reminding residents in regards to the penalties of bringing a gun to a school.

“We would like to remind the public that it is illegal to bring a gun into a school – and there are very serious consequences for doing so,” the division stated. “We also STRONGLY encourage parents / guardians who are gun owners to properly secure their firearms in their homes so that kids don’t have easy access to them. We recommend using a gun safe or gun lock.”
