Florida taxi driver held at gunpoint after passenger refuses to pay fare

NORTH LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Broward Sheriff’s Office detectives launched surveillance video of a person they stated held a taxicab driver at gunpoint after refusing to pay the fare.

The crime occurred about 1:30 a.m. on the Fourth of July.

BSO spokeswoman Gerdy St. Louis stated the driver picked up the rider, named “James,” close to the 7800 block of Southwest Eighth Street in North Lauderdale. She stated as soon as the passenger received contained in the cab, the driver informed him full fee was required upfront.

That’s when investigators stated the rider turned irate, demanded one other cab and pulled a gun on the driver.

Broward Sheriff’s Office investigators try to determine this man who they are saying pulled a gun on a taxicab driver on the Fourth of July in North Lauderdale, Fla.

Surveillance video from contained in the cab reveals the driver calling for a second cab and asking his passenger to wait outdoors. However, the passenger refused and demanded that the driver take him again to the pickup location.

A couple of minutes later, the driver may be seen within the video holding his fingers up, telling the passenger, “Please, man, don’t kill me.” At one level, the driver may be heard warning the passenger that he is on digicam.

St. Louis stated the scared driver crashed right into a parked automobile, and the armed passenger left with out paying the fare.

Investigators have been asking anybody who acknowledges the gunman to name the BSO or Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
