Bend, Oregon — A person entered a Safeway grocery store in Bend, Oregon, Sunday night and fatally shot two folks, authorities mentioned.

The man believed to be the shooter was discovered dead inside, Bend Police mentioned in an announcement.

Police mentioned they responded to a number of 911 calls at the Forum Shopping Center in the central Oregon metropolis at about 7:04 p.m.

At a Sunday night time news convention, Bend Police Chief Mike Krantz mentioned the gunman got here from a residential space behind the buying heart and moved by way of the car parking zone shooting rounds from an AR-15 fashion rifle. Heather Thompson, who lives close by, told CBS Bend affiliate KBNZ-TV she heard 5-8 photographs and she or he thought it was backfire. “And then less than a minute later there were 10-20 shots and then another 10-20 shots. I told my dad to get away from the window and there were people running out of Safeway,” she mentioned. The police arrived “in a matter of, like, 5 seconds.”  

Molly Taroli, 40, advised The Bulletin newspaper she was along with her husband in the Safeway looking for dinner when the shooter went by way of the store “spraying shots.”

Taroli advised the newspaper she took her personal handgun from her purse. Employees, Taroli mentioned, have been yelling “go, go, go!” as they tried to assist folks flee.

Josh Caba, one other shopper in the store, advised KTVZ he was together with his 4 kids when he heard a number of photographs.

“I immediately turned to my children and said, ‘Run!’ People were screaming,” Caba advised the station. “It was a horrifying experience.”
