OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The head of Oklahoma’s jail system who oversaw the agency’s return to carrying out executions after a seven-year hiatus is stepping down.

Oklahoma Department of Corrections Director Scott Crow introduced his resignation in an announcement on Monday. He didn’t cite a motive for stepping down.

His final day as director might be Oct. 31. Crow joined the agency in 1996 after a profession in regulation enforcement.

He helped oversee the state’s return to finishing up deadly injections and was contained in the dying chamber for the final 4 executions. He was appointed director by Gov. Kevin Stitt in 2019.
