DETROIT — Nissan is recalling more than 236,000 small cars within the U.S. since the tie rods in entrance suspension can bend and smash, in all probability inflicting drivers to lose steering control.

The recall covers positive Sentra compact cars from the 2020 through 2022 model years. Tie rods assist cars transfer the wheels for steering.

Nissan says in paperwork posted Saturday through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that if tie rods develop into bent, they can smash and impact the steering, expanding the chance of a crash.

Owners will have to touch sellers if their steering wheel is off heart or they really feel a vibration. At first, sellers will check up on and exchange any bent or damaged tie rods. Once a new design is to be had, they’re going to exchange each the left and proper tie rods for free of charge to homeowners.

Letters notifying homeowners will likely be mailed beginning Oct. 5. A 2nd letter will move out as soon as portions are to be had.

Many of the similar cars had been recalled in 2021 to fix the similar problem, the paperwork say. Cars repaired underneath the former recall will want to get the brand new tie rods when they’re able.
