POMPANO BEACH – Cassandra Pierce spent Monday getting her son Kylin prepared for the beginning of Broward public school that begins Tuesday, August 16.

Her son goes into third grade at Markham Elementary.

On Monday, the school distributed free backpacks and provides courtesy of Office Depot and the Broward Education Foundation.

It’s a giant assist to Pierce as a result of she’s a single mother who says she is headed to varsity herself.

While the backpack is a plus, she says she has lingering concern over the school bus state of affairs.

“The wait time to get in touch with someone (at the transportation department) is long,” she says.

But the district is hoping to move off transportation complications this 12 months with a brand new app.

It’s known as “Here Comes the Bus” and parents can enroll on-line.

The district is paying near a half million {dollars} over 5 years to launch it.

It tracks a school bus and a mother or father can observe the route by the app to let them know the place the bus is at any given second.

Miami-Dade faculties, which begin Wednesday, haven’t got the app. Their buses have GPS. Miami-Dade faculties police monitor transportation. Parents are urged to name the school is there is a bus concern.

In Broward, Here Comes the Bus launches September 15.
