Murder trial begins for man accused in 2021 deadly IHOP shooting

SAN ANTONIO – The homicide trial for a man accused in a deadly shooting at West Side IHOP started on Tuesday.

Alejandro Diaz is charged with the dying of 44-year-old Kevin Clifton.

According to the state, Diaz and Clifton were given into a controversy throughout the IHOP close to Marbach Road on March 13, 2021.

Surveillance pictures from the incident confirmed that Clifton began the combat by means of hitting Diaz. Clifton then grew to become towards two ladies combating and attempted to damage them up when Diaz allegedly shot Clifton two times.

In opening statements, the protection instructed the jury that Diaz was once now not to blame and it was once self-defense as he was once protective himself and his female friend.

The trial is going down in the 186th district courtroom with presiding Judge Kristina Escalona.

If discovered to blame, Diaz faces anyplace from 5 to 99 years or lifestyles in jail.
