A Tik Tok crime sleuth accused the professor publicly of committing the murders on her account. It gained tens of millions of views.
MOSCOW, Idaho — A University of Idaho professor has filed a lawsuit alleging defamation by a Tik Tok crime sleuth, who accused the professor of murdering the 4 Idaho college students on her account — which later was reposted and considered by tens of millions.
A Texas primarily based internet sleuth, Ashley Guillard, posted a number of Tik Toks in November and December accusing University of Idaho Professor Rebecca Scofield of the quadruple homicide. Scofield later sued when Guillard did not take the movies down.
The swimsuit, filed Wednesday, was first reported by the University of Idaho Argonaut.
Guillard says she “solves crimes online” by way of psychic readings, and her movies have gained 1000’s of views.
In the movies, Guillard says Scofield was having a relationship with one of many victims after which deliberate the murders with one other pupil as a result of “(the victim) wanted a break in the relationship” and wished to “keep from making the relationship public” courtroom filings mentioned.
However, Scofield says within the swimsuit that she did not even have any of the victims in her lessons. The lawsuit says that Scofield was not even in Moscow when the homicides occurred — she and her husband had been in Oregon visiting mates, it mentioned, when the quadruple stabbing occurred off King Road on Nov. 13.
The criticism says that Guillard wrote, “I don’t care what y’all say, Rebecca Scofield killed (the victims) and she was the one to initiate the plan…”
Scofield reached out to Guillard to ask her to take the defamatory statements down after the posts had been shared by the 1000’s. However, Guillard didn’t take them down, the swimsuit mentioned.
Guillard saved posting extra movies, the lawsuit mentioned, citing a video that acknowledged, “Rebecca Scofield is going to prison for the murder of the 4 University of Idaho students whether you like it or not.”
Some movies about Scofield have 2.5 million likes.
Scofield says within the swimsuit that the false statements have broken her fame and prompted her to worry for her life and household. She was topic to on-line threats and mock from Guillard’s followers, the swimsuit mentioned.
Police have needed to ask the general public to cease contacting individuals which may be linked with the victims, and Facebook pages have been made doxxing ex-boyfriends. Some social media pages have began plastering the faces of the victims’ mates throughout a number of platforms.
A Twitter consumer even started calling the native bar that Mogen and GonCalves had been seen at that evening, the Corner Club, and asking the proprietor if he might present final names for individuals she believes the bar is “covering” for.

Yo, the tip line is 208.883.7180 if you think you know something. All you’re going to get here is a hard time.”
Moscow Police Chief James Fry advised KTVB Wednesday, “There’s a lot of people who… want to be involved on the internet. We are the official source of information.”
Scofield is demanding a jury trial within the case.
