The City of Miami Beach has been awarded $1.25 million in state grant cash to fund the favored free trolley service in South Beach and a separate award of $158,000 towards the Mid Beach on-demand Freebee service.

“Our trolley and Freebee services remain two of the most popular ways to get around Miami Beach,” defined Miami Beach City Manager Alina T. Hudak. “In addition to being better for the environment, these alternate forms of transportation reduce congestion on our roads and increase mobility options.”

Covering fiscal 12 months 2024, the awards have been issued by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) public transit service improvement program, which supplies as much as three years start-up funding for brand new public transit initiatives and as much as 50% of the working prices of the service.

Miami Beach has been awarded greater than $6.5 million in FDOT funding for the 2 packages since 2014.
