Mansfield Lake Ridge softball falls in dramatic state title game to San Antonio O’Connor

AUSTIN — Mansfield Lake Ridge had to overcome an influence outage, an hour delay and a nationally ranked opponent if it needed to win a historic state championship Saturday evening.

It was three outs from engaging in that.

Lake Ridge misplaced in heartbreaking trend as Jada Munoz led off the underside of the seventh with a game-tying house run, then AJ Sanchez drew a bases-loaded stroll 4 batters later to rating the successful run with no outs and provides San Antonio O’Connor a dramatic 7-6 win in the Class 6A softball state championship game at Red and Charline McCombs Field.

O’Connor, ranked No. 6 in the nation by MaxPreps, grew to become the primary Northside ISD softball group to win a state championship. Lake Ridge fell quick in its bid to give Mansfield ISD its first softball state title and to develop into the primary Lake Ridge group to win state in a real group sport. The Lake Ridge women received a group state championship in monitor in 2018, however that’s extra of a person sport.

O’Connor answered with two runs in the underside of the primary on back-to-back RBI singles by Jada Munoz and Ella Gonzales. But Lake Ridge stored a 3-2 lead as catcher Raigan Brannon threw out a runner attempting to steal third to finish the inning.

Lake Ridge freshman pitcher Avery Hoang (18-1) had been super all season and entered state with a 0.62 ERA. But after Hoang bought the win towards Deer Park, permitting three earned runs whereas throwing 98 pitches in a whole game, Lake Ridge determined to begin Morris (14-5, 3.49 ERA) towards O’Connor.

Morris lasted just one inning as she was changed by Hoang after a leadoff double by O’Connor’s Ella Salinas in the underside of the second. Morris moved to first base after the pitching change.

The state title game featured two of the most effective leadoff hitters in the state — Oklahoma State pledge Tia Warsop of Lake Ridge and Texas signee Leighann Goode of O’Connor. After a throwing error on a stolen base allowed O’Connor to tie the rating, Goode adopted with an RBI single to give O’Connor a 4-3 lead.

Chance made probably the most of her large likelihood in the highest of the fifth, hitting a two-out, two-run single to give Lake Ridge a 5-4 lead. After Morris walked, Maggie Miller hit an RBI single to enhance the lead to 6-4.

It got here a day after Lake Ridge scored six runs with two outs in the highest of the fourth in an 8-4 win over Deer Park.

O’Connor’s Haley Carder hit a solo house run in the underside of the sixth to lower the Lake Ridge lead to 6-5.
