Lockdown at Florida elementary school cause parents to panic

PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. — Palm Beach County deputies responded to Berkshire Elementary School on Monday afternoon and blocked off a part of the campus with crime scene tape.

The School District of Palm Beach County mentioned the school was positioned on a code-red lockdown at about 2 p.m. native time as a result of the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office was serving a warrant within the space.

The school district mentioned no photographs had been fired on campus, and the school was not on lockdown.

“The School District of Palm Beach County has no evidence that shots were fired in the vicinity of the school,” the district mentioned in a written assertion. “The school was placed on a precautionary lockdown because of law enforcement activity in the community away from the campus. All students and staff were safe. The school was given the all-clear within minutes of the lockdown being called.”

Teri Barbera, a spokeswoman for the sheriff’s workplace, mentioned there was no capturing and deputies tried to find a person close by.

Several police cruisers had been seen exterior the school, together with school district cops and a Palm Beach County Fire Rescue ladder truck. In addition, a part of a courtyard on campus was blocked off with yellow crime scene tape.

Palm Beach County Fire Rescue mentioned crews had been dispatched close by at 2:15 p.m. for experiences of a capturing.

However, these crews had been cleared about 10 minutes later after being advised there was no capturing and nobody was harm.

“Everybody literally started running toward the school, jumping the fence, screaming, screaming, screaming,” mentioned dad or mum Lazara Font. “And everybody started panicking, yelling, like there was a shooting going on.”

Font described the lockdown as a “frantic scene” as involved parents raced to get their youngsters from the school after rumors began circulating that one thing had occurred contained in the school.

“I ran and I hid behind one of the cars and I called 911,” Font mentioned. “And then the cops all came and they just swarmed the school. They were telling us, calm down, calm down, there’s no active shooting, there’s no active shooting.”

Students mentioned a code purple lockdown announcement came visiting the school’s intercom system and kids had been moved to one other a part of the constructing.

“It was just a code red, and then we were all hiding. And then I heard police sirens,” mentioned fifth-grade scholar Jonas Velez.
