Retired wrestling star Lanny Poffo has died at 68, fellow WWE legend ‘Hacksaw’ Jim Duggan revealed Thursday. A trigger of loss of life has not been revealed.

‘With a really, very heavy coronary heart, I’ve been requested to let everybody know concerning the passing of our good friend and colleague Lanny Poffo, The Genius,’ Duggan wrote on social media. ‘RIP Lanny.’

The real-life younger brother of ‘Macho Man’ Randy Savage and son of one other wrestler, Angelo Poffo, Lanny received his begin within the All-South Wrestling Alliance within the mid-Seventies. But it was in 1985 with the WWE, then often known as the WWF, that the younger Poffo received his massive break.

First often known as ‘Leaping Lanny Poffo,’ the Illinois native would flip heel within the late Nineteen Eighties by adopting a brand new persona, ‘The Genius,’ who incessantly insulted followers via poetry.

‘LANNY POFFO MY BROTHER,’ started a capitalized tweet by former wrestler, the Iron Sheik. ‘I LOVE YOU FOREVER. GIVE [the late] NIKOLAI [Volkoff,] RANDY [Savage,] AND ELIZABETH [Hulette] HUG FOR ME.’

‘Lanny Poffo. The genius. Man. I’m so sorry brother,’ tweeted one other wrestler, Virgil (aka: Michael Jones). ‘Love you and Randy greater than you ever will know. RIP.’

Poffo is remembered for popularizing wrestling within the Nineteen Eighties, when the once-regionalized spectacle turned a nationwide sensation with the likes of Hulk Hogan, Savage, and Andre the Giant.

Later, he would function a supervisor for the Beverly Brothers as they beat the beloved tag-team pair, The Bushwackers.

Poff bounced again and forth from the WWF, WCW, and varied unbiased circuits over the rest of his profession, and later inducted his late brother into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2015.
