DETROIT — Kia is recalling about 320,000 cars in the U.S. to fix an issue that could save you the trunk from being opened from the inside.
The recall covers the Optima midsize automobile from 2016 via 2018, Optima hybrids and plug-ins from 2017 and 2018, and the Rio small automobile from 2016 and 2017.
Kia says in paperwork posted Thursday by way of U.S. protection regulators that the trunk latch base can crack, and would possibly not open from the inside. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says an individual inside the trunk could grow to be trapped.
Dealers will substitute a part of the trunk latch base. Owners will probably be notified by way of letter beginning Oct. 19.
