‘I am suffering mentally,’ Uvalde educator says on false blame for events leading to shooting: Exclusive

Emilia “Amy” Marin, confronted with a gunman heading towards a Texas elementary faculty in May, mentioned she tried frantically to save the lives of scholars. She closed an exterior door, referred to as 911 and shouted to alert folks inside Robb Elementary School.

Three days after the rampage, Col. Steven McCraw, the director of the Texas Department of Public Safety, instructed a news convention {that a} “teacher” propped open the door and that is how the killer bought in. Nineteen college students and two of their lecturers died within the bloodbath.

“The teacher runs to the room, 132, to retrieve a phone, and that same teacher walks back to the exit door and the door remains propped open,” McCraw mentioned.

Within days, DPS admitted that McCraw’s feedback had been improper. On Sunday, a DPS spokesman instructed ABC News, “DPS corrected this error in public announcements and testimony and apologizes to the teacher and her family for the additional grief this has caused to an already horrific situation.”

Marin instructed Quiñones she believed she was being made a “scapegoat.”
