Hearing to be held for rapper YNW Melly in Broward County

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – An Arthur and Brady listening to is being held Friday for rapper YNW Melly in Broward County, months after a mistrial was once declared in his double homicide trial.

An Arthur listening to is a process to decide whether or not bond will be thought to be for a suspect accused of a capital legal. A Brady movement is to request that the prosecution turns over any probably exculpatory proof – proof that can be favorable to the defendant.

After 19 days of listening to arguments, Broward Circuit Judge John Murphy declared a mistrial on July 22 after the jury failed to achieve a unanimous determination in regards to the rapper’s double homicide accusations.

Broward County prosecutors will retry the case with a brand new jury.

Prosecutors accused Jamel “Melly” Demons of fatally taking pictures Christopher “Juvy” Thomas Jr. and Anthony “Sakchaser” Williams in a Jeep Compass that Cortland “Bortland” Henry, a co-defendant who’s expecting trial, was once using in the early morning hours of Oct. 26, 2018, in Broward County.

Henry reported there was once a drive-by taking pictures and Thomas and Williams have been the sufferers. The prosecution accused Demons of killing Thomas and Williams and Henry of serving to him to duvet it up. The protection mentioned Demons had not anything to do with the taking pictures.

A grand jury indicted Demons on Feb. 7, 2019, and he surrendered to Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies on Feb. 13, 2019. Deputies have held him with out bond ever since.
