The document medal success of Great Britain’s swimmers at Tokyo 2020 has seen the sport receive a huge £1.5million increase in funding for Paris 2024.

Team GB, led by Adam Peaty, collected eight medals in the pool at the Olympics in the summer time – surpassing their earlier greatest haul of seven at London 1908.

That has resulted in them being the huge winners in UK Sport’s revised price range for the subsequent Games in Paris, with their funding for 2021 to 2025 growing from £16.6m to £18.1m.

UK Sport – the elite sport funding company – yesterday introduced an additional £11.2m to be divided between sports activities following an increase in Government funding.

Cycling, in which Team GB gained 12 medals throughout all disciplines, has obtained a £1.1million increase in funds. Even rowing, regardless of simply profitable two medals in Tokyo, has been given an additional £240,000.

However, athletics, in which Team GB didn’t convey an gold medal for the first time since Atlanta 1996, and badminton, are the solely two of 18 funded Olympic sports activities to not receive an uplift.

UK Sport chief government Sally Munday mentioned: ‘To now be in a position to strengthen our investment across so many sports for Paris will undoubtedly help us in our ambition to reach, inspire and unite the nation.’

British Swimming chief government Jack Buckner added: ‘British Swimming is pleased to have received an uplift in funding across swimming, para-swimming and diving for the next two-and-a-half years into Paris 2024.
