Embattled Oklahoma jail administrator announces resignation

Greg Williams, the administrator of the troubled Oklahoma County jail, introduced his resignation on Monday.

Jim Couch, chairman of the Oklahoma County Criminal Justice Authority, often known as the Jail Trust, stated in a press release that they had accepted Williams’ resignation and thanked him for his service.

Oklahoma County Jail administrator Greg Williams introduced his resignation Monday.

“We expect him to remain in the role until approximately the middle of January, though his final work day has yet to be determined,” Couch stated.

The belief took over operation of the jail from the county sheriff’s office in July 2020. Since then, it has repeatedly come beneath hearth due to inmate deaths, escapes and different incidents. That criticism intensified after an inmate was shot and killed after taking a detention officer hostage in March 2021.

The Oklahoman newspaper reported 5 of the 9 jail trustees testified final month earlier than the state’s multicounty grand jury, which is wanting into the jail’s operations.
