President Joe Biden mentioned Wednesday he’s appointing Kim Cheatle because the new director of the Secret Service because it faces scrutiny over missing text messages associated to the Jan. 6 assault on the U.S. Capitol.

Cheatle will succeed James Murray, who introduced his retirement final month earlier than the text message debacle turned public.

Murray, in the meantime, has insisted that the company is cooperating with the Jan. 6 committee, saying in a press release every week after the subpoena was issued that the Secret Service was “finalizing dates and times for our personnel to make themselves available to the Committee for follow up inquiries.”
