ASU football lands 5-star Oklahoma EDGE Clayton Smith in transfer portal

Former Oklahoma Sooners EDGE Clayton Smith introduced his transfer to Arizona State on Thursday.

Smith was a five-star recruit by Rivals and a four-star prospect by 247Sports and ESPN, making him the highest-ranked participant to transfer to ASU by way of the portal.

The 6-foot-4, 245-pound redshirt sophomore could have three years of eligibility as he joins a Sun Devil football program that’s now below new management with head coach Kenny Dillingham on the helm.

In seven profession video games during the last two seasons at Oklahoma, Smith accrued eight tackles (4 solo and 4 assisted) and 1.5 tackles for loss to go together with one fumble restoration.

Smith is the twenty fifth Division I transfer to enter the portal and elect to hitch Dillingham and Co. in Tempe this offseason.

And in the case of high-caliber edge rushers, new defensive coordinator Brian Ward will probably be teaching a plethora of proficient people for the very first time.

The five-star Smith joins four-star Texas transfer Prince Dorbah, four-star true freshman Ashley Williams and Elijah O’Neal, who was ranked the No. 3 JUCO edge rusher by 247 Sports.
