OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) – A federal grand jury unsealed an indictment Tuesday, charging two men with two hate crime counts for an alleged brutal assault in opposition to a Black man in Shawnee in 2019.
The indictment was unsealed within the Western District of Oklahoma.
Brandon Killian and Devan Johnson are each accused of two hate crimes allegedly dedicated round 2 a.m. on June 22, 2019.
Family members of one of many victims, Jarric Carolina, advised KFOR in 2019 that Jarric and a good friend had been having a drink at Brickhouse Saloon in Shawnee after they had been out of the blue attacked by two men.
Carolina was left unconscious.
A surveillance digicam recorded the brutal beating. The digicam captured one of many suspects yelling, “You’re dead” and a racial slur, following the assault.
Killian and Johnson had been arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault and battery, conspiracy and malicious intimidation or harassment.
Johnson beforehand accepted a deal, pleading responsible to aggravated assault and battery and malicious intimidation or harassment.
Killian and Johnson face a most sentence of 10 years in jail, three years of supervised launch and a high quality of as much as $250,000 if they’re convicted on the hate crimes.
